The Prior's Home Reveal {Finally}

You have no idea how thrilled I am to finally share photos of our newly furnished home here at Vela.

After almost three years in this home, we’d struggled to feel truly “finished” until we enlisted the help of the interior designer, Lydia Uzzell, and her team at Lydia Uzzell Interior Design, and I really don’t know why we waited so long!

After many months of trial and error we decided to invest proper money into asking the professionals to help put their magic touch on our home and I can’t wait to share it with you.

Despite having sourced some things ourselves and having finished the kitchen, we’d still struggled to find some major items, like the perfect sofa, coffee table, rug, patio furniture, artwork and accessories, and we were tired of getting it “wrong”.

Those who’ve followed my social for some time know that Stefan and I love home projects having worked through our first renovation project on our own {The Secrets We Learnt From Our Very First Home Renovation}; we certainly learned a great deal!

Although we haven’t had any proper schooling in interiors, Stefan trained as an architect which certainly helps and I’d like to think we have some taste between us! However, sourcing the correctly proportioned items, that are good quality and sustainable in a family home was proving really tricky; especially when you can’t even sit on a sofa because we’re in a different country {aka island problems}.

It was time to bring in the big guns. Lydia and her superstars Diane and Bex very kindly took on our partly-done project before this service was launched via their new brand Huis. With our agreed budget, they sourced and installed some incredibly beautiful items for our living room, master bedroom, spare room, home office and outdoor patio, that all worked perfectly with the successful pieces we already had; a real win-win!

All items in this blog were sourced, installed and delivered via Huis and some are even in-store today at the new Huis Storefront by Lydia Uzzell Interior Design.

This blog is sponsored by Huis but the services and items were happily paid for by us in full. We’ve been really thrilled by the end result and I hope you enjoy my room by room home tour below!

Entertainment Centre Accessories

Our entertainment area was done in parts but it never truly felt finished. Thanks to Lydia and her beyond-amazing styling skills, a few key accessories were able to transform this area into one that we really feel proud of. I loved how she was able to finally put all my coffee table books to good use too!

New items (all sourced, delivered and installed via Huis): Vintage oil pot // Gray Horn Magnifier // Masquerade Global ornament (gold & black) // Candle Vase (on loan from Huis)

Living Room

Our living room was the area we found most challenging. Although we are blessed with lots of natural light, the proportions and layout of the living room were proving tricky to furnish. Case and point, we’d gone through 3 different styles of sofa and still hadn’t found the right configuration {oh the shame, thank goodness for Ecay!}.

Lydia and her team were able to source a HUGE five-seater sectional sofa that suited the space perfectly and came in at an incredible price. I honestly couldn’t believe we could fit such a large sofa in our space. The image that this sofa brand had online was not inspiring at all but the team were able to ensure it did not come like the photo and we put our trust in their expertise.

The advice and experience that comes from using a team of professionals really is invaluable and sometimes you only need a couple of design hours to get there! The team sourced a stylish accent chair, a really durable and pet-friendly rug, on-point mudcloth throw cushions and a beautiful coffee table that will hold up to feet and hot drinks too!

New items (all sourced, delivered and installed via Huis):

Jonathan Louis Harris Sectional Sofa (similar sofa here) // Loren Area Rug // Classic Home Molly Coffee Table // White Bubble Shell // Neta cane lounge chair // African mudcloth throw pillows (5)

Entryway

One of the very few negatives we’d say we have with our home is that it is a little low on storage space so it was important to try and find some stylish storage in our entryway. And wow did the team deliver!

Our new chest is one of my favourite pieces for many reasons. It’s so much bigger than I thought we’d be able to have in the space. I love the natural colourings of the walnut wood. Most of all {and I’m aware this is making me sound much older than my 31 years}, I love the storage it gives us. This one-piece alone hides shoes, yoga mats, car accessories, dog leads, and all those keys Stefan likes to bring home! And it sounds obvious now but they actually changed the wall we’d previously used for our entryway table - another example of the expertise you’ll receive...even when you didn’t know you needed it!

New items (all sourced, delivered and installed via Huis):

Walnut 5 Drawer Chest // Phalaenopsis Artificial Orchid // Bone Box // Lining Bone Box // Bluestone See No Evil Monkey // Apple ornament (all accessories in store or on request)

Master Bedroom

Our master bedroom had some of the essentials {like a king bed, side tables, curtains, and sconce lights} but the style and essence of it hadn’t really come together. Lydia and her team swapped out the rug, added an uber useful and stylish leather storage bench at the end of the bed, a new bed quilt, some gorgeous throw cushions, a pair of elegant prints and an industrial, modern mirror to really tie it all together and add some much needed storage and function to the room. We absolutely love it.

New items (all sourced, delivered and installed via Huis):

Framed Wendover Good Morning Waves Artwork (available at The Storefront) // Bedspread Quilt // Throw cushions // Storage Bench (custom order) // Java area rug // Mirror (Four Hands Vina mirror with antiqued iron finish)

Master Bathroom

Adding items of both style and function has been the real win of working with a design team and the small upgrades to our master bathroom represent just that. Two elegant towel hooks and some beautiful white-washed wooden shelves really finished our master bath of with little effort and money.

New items (all sourced, delivered and installed via Huis):

Towel & Robe Hooks (Kohler purist line) (custom order) // Floating shelves (Restoration Hardware) (custom order)

Home Office aka Lustic HQ

Many of you know that I currently run my Lustic Media and Lustic Life businesses from home so it was important for me to feel like there was a designated area for the team to work and get into the flow of all things Lustic. The tricky part is that this won’t be forever {stay tuned for some exciting news} so we wanted to invest in adaptable furniture that we’ll love for a long time and be able to really get our money’s worth.

Dare I say it this room will eventually be a kids room {no, this is not a baby announcement of any kind!} so we asked the Huis team to source items that would stand the test of time. They truly made my dreams come true! I had fallen in love with this cabinet having seen it first on Amber Lewis and through the Huis team’s help we were able to make it work within our budget and I couldn’t be happier!

New items (all sourced, delivered and installed via Huis):

Armchair (Safavieh Sandra slipcover) // Cabinet (Four Hands) // Side Table (Four Hands) // Custom Jute Rug

Outdoor Patio

With so much of our time spent outdoors here in beautiful Cayman, we wanted to create an outdoor space that was an extension of our living room. Besides looking beautiful, more importantly, it had to hold up to Cayman’s changeable weather - intense, bleaching sunshine followed by torrential rain.

After several months, and many rainstorms and soggy beach bums later, I can confirm our outdoor furniture has held up beautifully! I especially love the versatility of the teak stools - coffee tables, footstools and extra seats all in one!

New items (all sourced, delivered and installed via Huis):

Outdoor Sofas (Four Hands) // Teak Stools (Four Hands) // Outdoor Rug (custom order) // Woven Outdoor Chairs // Outdoor Side Table (Kingsley Bate)
